Agency Designations
United Way of Yellowstone County accepts donations from donors who choose to "designate" all or a part of their donation to another qualifying agency. In order to qualify, an agency must hold a current 501(c) (3) status with the Internal Revenue service. Any other 501 status will make the agency ineligible.
Each spring these agencies are notified, with a letter, of any donor who designated their agency to receive all or part of their contribution from the previous Fall campaign. If any donor chooses to have their name released for acknowledgement, their name and address will be included in the letter. United Way of Yellowstone County does not release names and addresses of donors - unless given written permission from the donor.
Payments to the designated agency are paid through direct deposits to the agencies bank account. Once notified, agencies must provide to United Way of Yellowstone County a completed ACH Form. All agencies are required to fill out the form and return it, even if one is on file from previous years' campaigns. This form must be completed and returned by May 30th in order to receive payment. Payments will be held until the ACH form has been received.

Payments will be made as a direct deposit to bank accounts in the months of July, October, January, and June following the Campaign. For Campaign pledges made in the fall of 2009, payments will be made in July 2010, October 2010, January 2011, and June 2011. This timeline allows for all pledges to be received, all designated agencies to be notified and return an ACH form, and a sufficient amount of payments to be received for an efficient distribution of funds.
United Way of Yellowstone County currently deducts a 9% fee from the total donation to cover a portion of fundraising and accounting expenses.
