June 21 is United Way's Day of Action! Day of Action is the day across all United Way's to activate the caring power of volunteers in the community.

Poverty Simulations unite groups beyond stereotypes and create deeper empathy and understanding as well as motivation to take action.

Volunteers play a critical role in the simulation by running community agencies and resources such as a bank, school, employer, etc. that participants interact with. No experience necessary and training is provided.

- Lack of school supplies plays a vital role in a child's development socially, physically and mentally
- When students do have their own school supplies, their grades and classroom behavior improve and they become more excited about school and learning
