On friday Novermber 15th, the wonderfully talented artist Desja gave a concert at MSU-B's campus in honor of the United Way of Yellowstone County's substance abuse prevention efforts. All proceeds from the $10 a person suggested entrace fee were donated to us and our programs like Pure Performance. We would like to thank Desja for her generocity and dedication to this important issue.
Desja is a fantastic Native American recording artist from the Hardin area studying music at MSU-B. She knows all too well the corrupting influence drugs and alcohol can have on communities and we commender her efforts to tackle these problems head on.
Backed by an incredibly talented group including students and teachers from her department she performed original music about faith, community and the importance of staying substance free. The performers also skillfully covered jazz, gospel and pop standards, but really shined when covering Mo Town, especially the dynamic late Etta James.
